  • Common Resistor Types Using Steatite Cases steatite ceramics in these resistor types: Wirewound Resistors: Construction: A resistance wire (like Nichrome) is wound around a steatite ceramic rod or tube. The steatite body provides the core for winding. For higher power ratings, the assembly is often placed inside a larger steatite tube or case, with the space filled with a silicone cement for better heat transfer and environmental protection. Appearance: Typically a white, brown, or grayish cylindrical body with metal end caps and axial leads.   Power Film Resistors: Similar to wirewound, but a resistive film is applied to a steatite rod instead of a wire.   Cement Resistors: A specific type of wirewound resistor where the steatite case is packed with heat-conducting, non-flammable cement to enhance power rating and protect the element.
